What to Bring to Your Dog’s Portrait Session

Clients often ask me “What should I bring to my dog’s photo shoot?” There are several things that can be helpful to bring.

First of all, bring a dog that has been exercised, especially if they are a high energy dog.  This will help them focus on what we ask them to do in order to get good photos.

I always have high value treats on hand so I can treat your dog often during our session.  This rewards them for participating and makes it fun for them as we turn a photo shoot into a game.  If your dog has allergies however, please bring along a high value treat you know he or she will be really excited about.

Water is great to have on hand as sometimes we will run around to get some action shots of your dog and they may need a drink.

If your dog normally wears a harness when you are out and about, please bring a dog collar too.  Wearing a collar instead of a harness will show more of your dogs’ features. However, if your dogs must wear a harness for safety reasons, that’s okay too!

Using your dog’s favorite toy or tennis ball can be a great way to get some goofy or excited expressions out of your pup.  We can also include his/her favorite toy in some of their photos.

Poop Bags are a must, because poop happens.

Patience is a must at a doggie photo shoot.  Your dog doesn’t understand our goal but will have fun.  If your dog doesn’t listen for a few minutes, it’s okay, just go with it.  (If you think they won’t listen at all, don’t worry, I assure you they will - they can do this!)  I’ll wrangle their attention while you wrangle them into place.
