Giving Back Through Shelter Photography
Over 4,000 shelter dogs photographed
by Evie Photography as of December 2022.
While volunteering at Animal Rescue New Orelans after Hurricane Katrina, I knew I wanted to get involved in my own community in Colorado. Although I live in Boulder, I chose to volunteer at Longmont Humane Society starting in 2007. At that time, most of the adoptable dog photos were shot with cell phones in the kennel. I knew we could do better and shelter management was happy to try something new. I started photographing the dogs outdoors in the summer and in a studio in the winter, using professional gear and lighting. Soon thereafter I became the lead photographer and grew the team to 5 animal photographers, two videographers and 8 animal handlers. Longmont Humane is often recognized for their animal photography. I also photograph many of their events and imagery for marketing.
As of December 2022, I have photographed over 4,000 shelter dogs for Longmont Humane Society alone. Studies show that good quality images of homeless pets help them get adopted faster and also show that shelters can be happy places that adopters want to visit.
