Let us answer your questions!

What style of photographer are you?

My style of photography has been described as natural, easygoing, fun and artistic.  I combine lifestyle, documentary, and relaxed traditional photography so you get a variety of genuine, casual images along with relaxed posed images.  I won’t make you pose stiffly or try to make you look perfect – you are perfect as you are!  Most images will be of you interacting with each other, rather than looking directly into the camera.  And when you are looking forward, you’ll have natural, unforced smiles!) The images from your session will capture a moment in time and will be images you cherish for a lifetime.

What’s included in my session?

Your session includes a fun portrait session experience that lasts about an hour. Within two weeks we will meet for an image reveal and order session. I’ll present you with at least 30 images for you to choose from. You can choose prints, wall art, albums, image boxes or digital files for an additional cost. I offer both Ala Carte Options and Custom Packages.

Where will my session be held?

I have carefully selected several outdoor locations in and around Boulder that provide beautiful scenery and optimal lighting.  If you have a place that is special to you, I am open to your suggestions.  Sessions can also be done at your home and my studio will accommodate small families, kids and pets.

How long will my session last?

Sessions last about an hour.  Some sessions can last a little longer if kids need a lot of breaks, but generally I get them done in an hour or less.

What will my session be like?

Your session will be fun and relaxed!  I aspire to make it an enjoyable and memorable experience in itself, not simply a means to an end. I’ll start by greeting everyone and chat with the kids so they’ll be comfortable in the moment.  We’ll wander around our location and stop at several spots, where I’ll gently guide you to interact with each other.  I’ll create images of the whole family, just the children, each individual child, the children with Mom, the children with Dad, and just Mom and Dad together, too!  Every member of your family will get a little personal camera time.  Nervous in front of the camera?  If you are, don’t worry, I can help you with that!

What time of day should we do our photo session?

The best time for optimal light is late in the day, early evening right before sunset. This provides us with flattering light so you will look your best. If you have young children, prepare them with a nap before our session so they will be ready to play.

What should we wear?

You should wear clothing that you are comfortable wearing and feel good in.  Wear clothing that expresses who you are.  Lifestyle sessions are meant to be authentic so wear things that represent your style.   It’s great to dress up if you want to but if you don’t want to, then don’t.  If your daughter hates dresses, don’t put her in a dress.  If your son loves his cowboy boots, let him wear them.  I would not advise dressing the family in identical attire (unless you do so on a normal day).  It doesn’t really fit the idea of a lifestyle photo session.  However, if you simply love the look of matching clothes, feel free!  Do choose clothing that looks good together. Neutral tones, earth tones, similar tones and denim look great!

Should Mom wear something special?

Yes. This is Mom’s time to shine.  So, Mom… you choose an outfit first that you feel great in and build everyone else’s outfits around yours.  Choose color tones that go well together.  Some patterns are fine but if everyone wears patterns, it can get “busy”.  Don’t choose clothing with logos or graphic tees.  Be sure clothes are wrinkle and lint free. I can help you with more specific questions if you have them.

When do I get to see my photos?

We will schedule your image reveal and ordering session within two weeks of your photo session.

One of my kids is shy and the other is rambunctious.  I don’t think they’d do well at a photo shoot.  Can you help?

Yes!  I work with all types of children and adjust how I work depending on their personalities.  I also direct the children to interact with each other and with you so they don’t feel like they have to look at me and constantly smile for the camera.  If kids misbehave, I don’t worry about it and don’t want you to worry either.  I just let kids be kids and interact with them in ways to help them relax and have fun.  My one important piece of advice to parents is to make sure kids are well rested and fed before our session so they feel their best.

How much does all of this cost?

Your session fee will be $250. Products are additional. Most of my clients spend between $450 and $2,000. Some spend less, some spend more. See my session info page for investment information. Contact me for all the details.
