4,032 Shelter Dogs!

As of December 31, 2022 I have photographed 4,032 shelter dogs for Longmont Humane Society since 2007!

I truly enjoy my volunteer work here and look forward to Sunday mornings when I get to meet and play with 8-10 dogs each week. There are so many different breeds of dogs with even more varying personalities from the super shy to outgoing and playful and to the ones you know are so wise about the world around them.

Most of the dogs are willing and ready to have their photos taken and it also serves as time out of their kennel engaging with people. But not all of the dogs want to be photographed, usually because they are new to the shelter and feeling shy or overwhelmed. For these dogs I take extra time and let them get to know me and my camera. If they are still not ready, we just play for a bit and try again the next week when they are more acclimated to their new surroundings.

Thankfully I have two amazing dog handlers, Rob and Nancy, who bring the dogs out of their kennels, take them on a short walk and get them into place for their photo. The dogs get lots of treats and affection during their mini photo shoots. We get lots of affection, wet kisses and lots of laughs!
